About the role

M-Spin is a recent spin-out from Imperial College which is developing unique ultra-high surface area porous metallic and ceramic sheets for electrochemical and electrocatalytic applications such as electrolysers and batteries. The business is expected to grow rapidly based on strong market pull for its products.

The Head of product development is a critical hire for the business. They will be expected to lead the research, development and manufacturing team, manage operations on a day-to-day basis, oversee the production of samples for customers, and further develop the companies core technology in consultation with the CTO & CEO. As the company grows, he or she would be expected to grow into a senior member of the management team.
What You’ll Do
As Head of Product Development, you will:

Develop, maintain, and manage the facilities of M-Spin, including proposing and implementing upgrades to the equipment and capabilities.

Ensure the safe operation of M-SPIN facilities.

Lead the manufacturing of samples and products for customers.
-
Propose and implement test programs to produce and fully characterise the properties of M-Spin products.

Further develop M-Spin technology and products, including the development of new IP.

Continue the development of M-Spin technology by preparing and characterising new variants of metallic and ceramic sheets.

Bring your experience of materials science/electrochemistry to bear on key technology challenges.

Support strategic technology development programs under the guidance of the CTO.

Manage, mentor, and guide junior staff in the delivery of the above goals.
Who You are
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong background in electrochemistry and materials science. The ideal candidate should have experience in designing and implementing electrochemical systems, as well as a passion for driving technological advancements. We are looking for people with:

Ph.D. in materials science, chemistry or a related subject from respected university/research institution.

Significant experience in electrochemistry and in the preparation and characterisation of polymeric, ceramic or metallic materials.

Experience of working in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Experience of leading a team to deliver against technical and commercial targets on time and budget.

Ability to synthesise and analyse complex data sets and present recommendations to improve processes and products.

Experience in preparing and presenting technical reports to key stakeholders both within and outside the organisation.
